This is turning out to be a very interesting challenge. I haven't had much time to play it yet, but soon.

FINALLY getting a chance to get this going.
The crew has been busy going about their assigned tasks.
The actual mining takes just enough time to allow for exploration and clean up / filling in the holes.
The cook needs to keep on his toes and get meals rolled out on time.
I also decided Cloe needed to read Cooking 101 to have just enough skill to make gourmet dog food for Axel.
That gives Axel a nice positive moodlet that lasts a while.
Busy playing and trying to remember to take a few pics.
The Crew is looking forward to the first weekend off.
Will post update later today in my challenge report thread.

The question was raised about what Real Estate would qualify for the four business investments.
I realize the newer SN businesses of Gypsy Wagon and Vault of Antiquity are super cheap and most likely do not qualify.
But the there are several like the Diner and Cafe that are under 50K to own outright.
http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/careers/realestateandvenues.php
Here is a summary list that does not include the most recent but all the old standbys are there.
The proposed value of 50K and up is understandable. Just want to suggest the possibility of a few others to consider.

Goals/Completion: 2. When the company as a whole own outright a local community business per partner (4 partners 4 business, 5 partners 5 businesses ect. [not including the mine]).

Income can also be made from business investments made and opportunities completed.

Edit : In the next challenge a business must be 50,000 Simoleons or more in value.

Comment: This is a great goal for this challenge and I agree that owning businesses and / or venues should be included as part of the end goal.
Thoughts / Suggestions:
Consider the total of partnership plus ownership for investment properties.
Consider combined ownership as one business to equal 50,000 Simoleons or more in value.
Example: Must own both Diner and Cafe to count as one business investment.
Or both Grocery and Bookstore.

Quote :
Sims must invest in Partnership first before they are eligible for Ownership. So, Total Cost of Ownership includes both Cost of Partnership and Cost of Ownership.

Thinking: {Yes ... that was the smoke you saw in the distance}
Why not invest in businesses related to each crew member? Not to be set in stone but suggestions.
Would still need at least four and equal 100K / crew member.
Example:
Ben /Cook - Diner & Bistro (24,000 + 37,500 = 61,500) or Market & Diner (27,000 + 24,000 = 51,000)
Bill / Maintenance/Inventor - Science Lab (140,000)
Cloe / Animal Trainer - Hospital (?) (105,000)
Jane / Site Manager - Business Center / Office Building (58,000)

Excellent suggestions EQ thanx heaps I have added these to the rules to see how it goes but I think they will work well Smile.

I have finished the next challenge, I had to rebuild the lot due to residents not liking the layout it took them a while to get from one place to another lol (you will understand in a second). I am a little unsure of this one it is one I have played a few times not as a challenge though I thought it was lots of fun. The set out is the same as MYOB just the idea is a little different Smile. Sims Rest Home Challenge in this one your business is a Rest home, you only have 2 task characters and the rest are elderly (2 elderly at start). You have to look after the elderly needs but they mostly don't have tasks or schedules. The task sims are a doctor and nurse the idea is to earn income from moving in elderly residents and looking after them till they pass on, then move in another elderly resident. Income can come from the move in, items in their back pack and then by employing them in painter or inventor type careers but they can only be made to work a small amount a day (4 hours) then they are more or less free will. I have it all ready to go just wanted to run it by peeps first Smile

I think it has excellent potential. You could have up to 6 elder residents at one time.

I suggest putting it in a thread of it's own and maybe add testing or testers wanted in the title.

Is travel abroad allowed? Jane has an opportunity to take a book to China and Ben wants to go abroad.

Yeap its fine to travel as the sim home world stops while away, I will check the rules and update. But you can't start any opportunities that are based in an abroad location.

Help !?!?
Jane met with a little 'accident' ........

So ....... am I done?
Can I complete the rest of the challenge by buying the other businesses I need to complete the goal?
Is it okay to resurrect Jane? Or ..... what?

All four met LTW goals. Family finds are over $400K but I had moved them out and back in the lot b/c of glitches.
Unfortunately I forgot to sell the businesses first and had only bought one investment property.

Taking this to Lucky Palms for a brand new try!

Well done EQ Smile and yeap you completed the challenge goals so you did finish even if Jane had a hiccup with that whole life thing lol. I haven't touched mine since the update, was going to wait and see what else glitches first but I may move them out then back in as well.

PostSubject: Re: 'Mine' Your Own Business Challenge (Testing Seasons)   Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:09 pm

So I was wondering what impact Seasons would have on this challenge.
Let's just say darn near impossible ....
The crew moved into Riverview on a beautiful sunny Summer Sunday.
Then Monday happened ................

..................
The crew cannot stick to the designated schedule because all ... including poor Axel keep getting the drenched moodlet. Then there is the Germy moodlet ... ... Sims now become ill! Cannot do a good job feeling Germy
And Leisure days ? In RH jobs ... I THINK (need to verify) they have day off so cannot Mine on those days.
I played a full Sim Week but lost my save when I got silly and tried to go to my EA page in game. Stupid game froze solid and after waiting quite a while I quit. I will not be defeated! Having another go at this but may need to alter the Mining schedule a bit. Wish me luck.... I will start another thread soon... It may be a short one though.

yeah I have wanted to try this too, I am thinking the first lifetime rewards should be immunity to sickness or cold something like that, I am eager to give this a go now lol Winter is going to be a real kicker, I haven't tried this yet but the miners can be placed in the mine shafts with MOO (I placed them there when building to see then forgot to test in game) I am not sure if they can be used though a thought might be to try mining underground on bad weather days but this would require excessive use of MOO. it's worth a try though I am going to give it a go tonight. Smile good luck and let me know if you feel any of the rules need to be abridged. Will change the title status back to testing Seasons.

I vote to leave the rules as written. Then add an amendment to allow for Seasons.
Testing now .. second go is much better as weather more tolerable.
Seasons may alter work schedules a bit though.
Going to play it by ear with same goals in mind - Meet LTW - Have 100K/Miner and own businesses.. etc ...etc.
Thinking may divide chores a bit. Cloe can only train Axel so long and does need to max 3 skills so pondering as I play what else to do with her.
Hmmm ....... *Ponder* ... *Ponder* ... *Ponder* ...

The Crew are a bit suspicious and all have a feeling of Deja Vu.
They all are strangers but yet feel like they have met somewhere else.

I am setting mine up now but wont be able to start until Monday as I have my kids for the weekend so no Simming for me lol I get to check online occasionally though so will come back to see updates Smile

Leaving the rules the same and adding a seasons version is a good idea I agree we should go with that. If work is to hard you could have a day off similar to the schools closing and such (apparently they close if it snows to much or gets to cold haven't seen it myself though) if your not working your not really earning toward the money goals.

She needs a work related job that can build at least one skill while she does the task (two would be better for her), something she can do inside. hmmmm might be time for a list to ponder over lol. Hahahaha I am pondering instead of finishing this post Smile

with mining in the cold I have a Sim who lives in a winter only world atm he lives in an igloo he built lol and spends most the day in the weather. Only his toilet is fully enclosed he has cover for small kitchen and another for computer and stuff, but I found by having a camp fire near him he stays warm even if not sitting directly at it I was thinking of putting a camp fire beside each mine site on the hill this may alleviate the cold. I will edit with pic.

As you can see in the pic the camp fire is behind him a fair way and he still receives the warm moodlet so this has helped him a lot, I am not sure how long he has been in game time but he is 5th level education and has only been sick twice both times in the first week. I was saving life time reward points for the immunity but didn't end up needing it.

PostSubject: New rules added   Sat Dec 01, 2012 8:43 pm

This is the latest addition to the rules, they have been added to the 1st post but I wanted to add them here as well for greater ease.

Babies and Children
The question of babies and children has been raised so this is the "band aid" rule until things are tested more these rules may change. If the crew decide to have babies they still need to work as normal to the schedule but they can hire a baby sitter. After the initial birth both parents (and only the parents) can have 3 days off work as a maternity leave. As long as the crew continue with their work schedule having children is fine, if it becomes to much one of the parents and the child should be moved out to a different home lot, the parent that leaves will need to be replaced with a new employee. Other forms of removing a child can be used it is up to the player as long as the rules for the crew are not broken. When the child is old enough boarding school is another viable option.

If anyone does try this I would appreciate if you could post any significant findings here Smile

Hope You Enjoy Smile
