I have done a test with regard to using paintings in your build that have been done by your Sim.

There is nothing that shows in the top line in Custard like there is with photographs. The paintings that are framed disappear. Any painting that are 'unframed' remain with the build.

Conclusion. Have fun using a combination of 'Memorize Scene' on your Sim's cell phone and the painting skill 'Paint from memory' to create some original artwork for your builds. But, don't frame them.

Good to know because I thought the only paintings that would go with the lot would be the EA ones.
This information could be put to use to make some interesting art galleries.

Edit: Once framed can Sim created art be unframed?

I just assumed they would remain with the build...and they did for me. But I've always used unframed paintings, so I guess that's why.Wink I never used framed ones cause I hated the frames.LOL
I remember there was a way to insert your own images into the game when your Sim was painting, in Sims 2. I miss that. Crying or Very sad

I still use that method in Sims 2 as I still play it. I would love to be able to do that in Sims 3 as well.

This is a dumb question, but how do you get your sim's painting into a community lot, say a museum? Do you send them there and pull them from their backpack? I have never tried that. It would be great to do a whole art gallery with your sim's paintings. Smile

I have never done it, but I would try setting the lot as residential first and have your Sim live there. Place the paintings on the wall and then move. Then change the designation to Community/Art Gallery.

Actually I have done this. Not a whole museum but have 'donated' art pieces to local art museum. Put in personal inventory. Drag to museum wall and now the town can view family art.

I need to try this again. I tried it not long after the game came out. I built a museum to house the paintings done by the family. I managed to get them on the walls there, but then they bounced back to my family in the family inventory as I recall. scratch

That's weird. scratch I've also done it and they've stayed with the lot. Maybe try it with another Sim and see what happens.

I tried it a long time ago, so something may have changed about how the family inventories work since then or our ability to place things on community lots. I am putting the family museum that I made in Spider so will have to try again.

Okay I have found out something since I last wrote.
I tried out another community building that I left Sims created art on. Only half of them showed up. I was very puzzled until I realized the ones that were still there were all game created art.
In other words the ones that I did using the "paint " command were there but the ones I created by painting a still life and then choosing the composition, or portraits of other Sims were not there.I couldn't check to see if they were in my Sims inventory since that Sim was no longer in my game. I imagine that's where they went though.
So it seems if you want to leave your own Sims art on a community lot it needs to be created by simply using the paint command and not by painting from memory or portraits still life etc. Those Lguess are personal so they stay with your Sim. This is what seems to be happening in my game anyway.

That makes sense as the ones done as painting are images in the game provided by EA whereas ours done are stored in our individual files, so are unique to us.

Good information!
