What happens when the bug occurs? I have an adult Irish Setter with Active (default for breed), Friendly, and Smart traits, who was added to an existing family as a puppy in CAS. She's been an adult for at least a Sim week, and she will still not "Go Potty" on her own. She never goes when taken for a walk either. She whines in misery until one of my Sims directs her to go. (When clicking "What's Wrong?" it's always potty; she is well-fed and played with frequently.) It seems that this problem might be tied to the "Smart" trait, ironically, as other players have reported it on the forums here: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/929148/do-adult-dogs-ever/p1

I have this same issue. I have 2 dogs. Both have the smart trait along with loyal and hunter. Neither will go potty unless directed nor will they eat with out being called to the bowl.

So that's the problem. Thanks for posting, BG. ( I thought it was a dumb thing in the game. )

According to the most recent posts on the AnswersHQ thread the Smart trait may be the issue.

I like to confirm that Smart dogs can not learn to pee outside on their own.
It was brought to my attention by someone on the forum and I changed the trait Smart to loud for 2 adult dogs and they learned to pee outside on their own, after being told 2 times. It happened at the same time, so it has to be because the Smart trait is messing with the learn to pee outside part of the game.
My game is CC free and I do not use Mods

Well dang. I haven't played for a good bit but I do believe that a couple of my dogs were given the Smart trait when in CAP. The first dog I created (but I can't remember if he has the Smart trait or not) did learn to go pee outside, but then when I moved him and his owner, I'll be jiggered if that dog didn't forget how to go outside to pee! giggle Since then no matter how many times the owner has to ask him to go potty, he just hasn't figured out how to do it by himself. Either that or I just figured he was afraid of the dark or of the woods surrounding the house. Wink Laughing

Now I'm going to have to go in game and scope out that dog!
