PostSubject: Are you ready to have your mind really blown?   Thu Jan 12, 2017 6:52 pm

Over on the forum there is a discussion about Pets. And....someone from Sims Community has dug around and found the code for Pets! The whole forum or at least that thread is in complete emotional meltdown! Could we really be looking at the possibility of a Pets EP?? Surprised

Sims Community wrote:
Update #3: The following code was found in the sim_info_types Python file, which, unfortunately, further pushes the theory that horses won’t be included in the pack.

class Species(enum.Int):
__qualname__ = ‘Species’
HUMAN = 1
DOG = 2
CAT = 3

class SpeciesExtended(Species):
__qualname__ = ‘SpeciesExtended’
SMALLDOG = 4

@staticmethod
def get_animation_species_param(value):
if value == SpeciesExtended.HUMAN:
return ‘human’
if value == SpeciesExtended.DOG:
return ‘dog’
if value == SpeciesExtended.CAT:
return ‘cat’
if value == SpeciesExtended.SMALLDOG:
return ‘smalldog’
return ”

@staticmethod
def get_species(value):
if value == SpeciesExtended.SMALLDOG:
return Species.DOG
return value

The above code contains the core enum (for those not familiar with code, it’s basically a list of named values) which contains all species, and horses aren’t included in it at all. However, as mentioned previously, it’s possible that the code is incomplete.

Update #2: There doesn’t appear to be any references to horses outside the two state machine files mentioned in update #1. Unfortunately, this means it’s possible horses were originally planned, but then scrapped. There are several other mentions of dogs and cats, but there’s not much that confirms new information. There is code suggesting pets can be picked up by Sims, similar to toddlers, but nothing massively amazing.

It’s possible horses will come and the code is just incomplete, we’ll just have to wait and see. Don’t get your hopes up too much though!

Update #1: Two “State Machine” resources (tuning related to animations) contain references to dogs, cats and even horses. Yep, looks like horses are returning! It also makes the distinction between small dogs and large dogs.

The first few lines of the “JumpOnObject” state machine:

The “sitNextTo_Posture” differentiates small dogs from large dogs, but doesn’t mention horses:

Today’s content update, which introduces toddlers to The Sims 4, also brings code updates that heavily points to a Pets expansion pack. In the XML resource “relationships.relationship_tracker_tuning”, there is XML code that explicitly mentions cats and dogs.

Alien Pollinator
Cat_Owned
Cat_Owner
Dog_Owned
Dog_Owner

Cat_Owner
CAT

Cat_Owned
CAT

Dog_Owner
DOG

Dog_Owned
DOG

In addition to this major hint, interactions, traits, and sim filters have all been updated with a “species” option.

Pets! Wow!
While the horses were beautiful I can see where they may not be practical in Sims4. Wondering if pets will be added in a patch like they did with Toddlers.

Right! All the discussions I have read in the past about toddlers the main argument was that toddlers would never be added into the game through a patch. And guess what! They were much to everyone's surprise. So one can not say or make the argument that the same can't happen with pets. I just hope that they will be like the one's in ts3 and not ts2.

I think a lot of players had that same thought! Now all we need is seasons/weather to make its return and we'll be half way there! Some players are still holding hope that the open world will return, but this late in the game that would be a miracle. The coding for the whole game would have to be rewritten and that is something I don't think will happen. Maybe Sims 5, seeings how is was Rachel Franklin who said that she decided Sims 4 wouldn't have an open world as she felt it wasn't important and its not what the players wanted. Don't know what planet she came from to come to that conclusion as that was/is the biggest selling point to Sims 3!

Speaking of open worlds, I like that Sims in TS4 can go quite a ways beyond their own yard. Makes the game seem not so confining to me.

Right. I agree with you there. I would love to see an open world return again as that was a huge selling point for me in buying TS3, but it doesn't really bother me all that much like I thought it would before S4 came out. I do like how they have really expanded the ability to walk out of your apartment or the warehouse home and into the area's around it in that neighborhood without encountering a loading screen. It's a step in the right direction.

Yes one of the reasons I was not interested in SIms 4 was because of losing the open world. But i was surprised to find out you can wander into the lots near your home which is something at least. I still miss the ability to collect and just wander where you want. I can't believe someone actually thought that wasn't important to Sims players! I really hated how in SIms 2 by the last few eps I had to wait wand wait for the loading screen. I deliberately started making elaborate apartments with playgrounds and activity rooms for the tenants just so I wouldn't have to wait for those stupid loading screens if my sims wanted to get out and socialize.

Ugh....TS2's loading screens were the worst! I literally would just keep my sims to home. I do miss the open world but after playing TS4, I just can't get into TS3 anymore! Surprised I thought I would never say that, but TS4 runs so much smoother, nothing irritates me more than going along and playing then bam, lag occurs. Talk about a zone killer! Laughing I have eliminated just about every store item I had and worlds, gone through my cc and eliminated a mass bunch of that. I kept all the files that you could safely clean out and delete cleared on a regular basis, that seemed to help some but the lag would eventually creep its way back in.

I love how easy it is to build in TS4, especially the roofs! I had terrible issues with roofs in TS3, it's like me and dough. We just don't get along. Laughing CAS in TS4 is nice with the advanced part, but unless I have CC skins, they all just look the same to me when creating them. I found with TS3, you could make your sims look somewhat more different and not have a bunch of carbon copies running around town. ROFL

I will say the one thing that I don't like in TS4 is the whole foundation thing. Yes it is nice that you can do your build then put the foundation under it, but there are some buildings on the same lot that I don't want a foundation under. And I wish we could still have terrain manipulation so we can add little hills and valleys and so forth. There's always hope the team will take some of these pro's and con's from what players like/liked from the whole series and be able to come up with a Sims 5 that will knock it out of the park.

I was just thinking of terrain manipulation recently and how I wished we had that option again. I loved it!
I also like the roofs in TS4. A lot of things are nice. My biggest complaints are the slowness of a Sim to take an action or not doing a prompted action at all. Happens way too often.

The terrain tool would be awesome to have back! And I hear you on sims taking forever and a day to do an action. Just recently I've noticed that some of my actions were getting cancelled out. scratch

Getting an action canceled happens way to often in my game play too. Don't like that at all.
