Banished gameplay Empty
PostSubject: Banished gameplay   Banished gameplay EmptyFri Feb 20, 2015 9:48 am

But I call it Vanished.  Because that's what keep happening to my villages.  I posted here earlier in the week   but the post doesn't exist today.  hmm  I keep doing things wrong and decimating the population of my villages.  Going back to an earlier save has helped but it gets so frustrating trying to play with only 3 so I started a new medium sized area village yesterday.  Within a season I was down to 3 villagers, 1 child, Surprised they were up to 5 villagers and 1 child when I quit last night.  So this is where I've been. Smile
(Just found out why my earlier post disappeared. Needed more letters in the topic title)

That's so sad Gram. I suggest that you watch Pinstar's Strategy and Tactics for Banished. Very informative.

Thanks! I bookmarked the site to read when I have more time. I went through the tutorial 2 1/2 times and perused the Banished forum for helpful info of where there was much help but not necessarily what I was looking for. I'm currently playing on a larger map. Medium sized and like it much better. It's a challenge.

Banished gameplay Empty
PostSubject: Re: Banished gameplay   Banished gameplay EmptySat Feb 28, 2015 11:04 am

I've watched about 1/3rd Of his video game play. Very helpful. Thank you, MW.

I actually have over 50 villagers now and trying some new things. Like building a mini village across the river. Moved the blacksmith over there, near the coal in hopes he'll get to it first. Also moved half the cattle and thinking it might be a good idea to move some chickens too and build a storage barn. After the tornado decimated the town hall and 2nd storage barn the village is having a difficult time recouping their loses. 3 of the 4 storage lots next to the 1st barn are empty and only a little firewood is on the 4th storage lot. Nail biting. The market was running out of supplies.
MW do you know what time frame the "Production limit for this resource has been reached" means? Is it just for the time being or forever? Also for Stored Food, "Once this limit is reached production will cease", is that forever? The production limit has been reached on quite a few things and I've raised the limit but what can be done when it eventually limits out? If I raise the limit on the Herbalist, will that hurt her gathering area?

The only things that runs out for production is the mine and the quarry. As long as you have the storage space you can raise the limits. For food, leather and wool etc. you need a storage barn. For stone, iron, logs and firewood you need a stock pile. You can raise the limit for food to 99,999. I think that is as far as it will go. There is not a time from for the limit, you just need to watch the quantity in 'stock'. Good luck!

Thank you.  There are some problems with having the village expand across the river.  The villagers will cross over to work but not get supplies like logs on the storage lots.  They will help themselves to the mined coal though, which is a lot further to go for.   Population is at 71 adults which is as high as I've ever gotten. The area is running out of resources, namely stone, and eventually wood will be scarce, which means no building.  Have a mine and quarry across the river in the expanded settlement and trying to get a mine going in the original settlement and then must add another quarry.  The last public building will be the chapel and graveyard.  Have been waiting for a trader to bring logs and stone.

If you are running out of wood make sure you have more that one forestry building. Make sure there are always 4 foresters at work at every forestry building.

I usually build a stock pile near the mine and quarry, then they don't have far to go to move it. Make sure you have lots of labourers as they are the ones that pick up the mined iron or coal and the quarried stone and take it to the stock pile. It can be a good idea to have two mines, one for iron and one for coal. I like to put a second blacksmith over near the mines too. You can also build houses near the mines so the workers don't have far to go to eat and get warm.

A trader will also bring seeds and livestock. You can think ahead and get the crop, orchard and livestock areas ready early. There are 8 crops and 8 orchard seeds. There are 3 livestock, chickens, sheep and cattle.

Congrats on the 71 adults.

PostSubject: Re: Banished gameplay   Banished gameplay EmptyFri Mar 13, 2015 12:24 pm

That save finally got everything but I left it for now and started another village. This one I started on Med ( thought that's what I'd done for the previous village but found out it was easy I'd started on hmm ) and it was more difficult. Population went down to 13 and it was many years before it went up again.
I was under the impression the assigned jobs villagers would help out with other things like cutting trees, collecting stone, iron, is that wrong? The blacksmith will not go to the mine to get the coal needed for steel tools. He'd rather let the village run out of tools. So I had the trader add coal to the posts' inventory, then take the coal out of the posts' inventory. The Blacksmith got some coal a few times when I used that method but then the trader wouldn't add coal to the posts' inventory. Please tell me the game isn't that smart!

Lots of learning with this game. I started another village with all my new knowledge and experience and it's doing very well but with fewer problems. It has grown, spread across the river, and appears to be flourishing with 3 cattle pens, 3 chicken pens 3 sheep pens ( so far) 9 med crop fields, 2 small fields, 4 orchard ( 4X12) and 1 12X8 orchard. One crop field and 1 orchard, and a sheep pen are across the river with a 2nd Fisherman hut, a 3rd Forrester, and an Herbalist, as well as a herder and a farmer and a miner, so far. There are over 122 adults, 2 storage barns, 2 mines, a quarry and a 3rd mine being built across the river. The base village has all the builds and business. This game got 3 achievements, almost one after the other and the only one I remember for sure is the Traders Achievement, which was the last one. I was surprised to see the achievements pop up as I'm not actively trying for any, they just happened. I'm pretty much done playing this game non stop but still have a few I'd like to try, like a mountainous map and the hard level. But not for a while. I've missed my Simmies.Smile

I've been away from the Banished game for so long I've forgotten the controls. I played it a little today and realized why I liked it so much. It's addictive. Smile

Yes it sure is! I played it all day yesterday just because I couldn't go for a walk. Got ready to go out and it started pouring rain. Started a new village and the map wasn't a 'good' one so it's quite the challenge. I'm not as good with the game as I thought I was.

PostSubject: Re: Banished gameplay   Banished gameplay EmptyWed Jul 19, 2017 2:13 pm

Been playing Banished again, off and on. Added a new game, Planetbase, and had to go through the tutorial 3 times, the 3rd time writing down the order of placing the 'units' and survival stuff down.
So going through my saved Banished games to see if they're still worth keeping and got involved with one save which now has 161 adults and around 50 school and preschool children. The merchant brought something called Chucka ( not sure of the spelling ) which I suspected I knew what kind of meat it was, and the livestock merchant came by the next year with Llama's! I had tried to get Llamas, a cc item, in my game a couple of years ago but they never showed up. Haven't been to the Banished chat site to see if they've been legally added to the game but would guess so.

lol They have an awful braying sound, like a mule or donkey.
