PostSubject: So, sell me on this game   Sun Sep 07, 2014 11:33 am

So far, I've seen some cool rounded corners in building and some pretty distance screenshots. Nice, but not enough to make me part with my money and give up Sims 3. I think I need to wait for a few EPs. I enjoyed fiddling with the CAS Demo too, but it doesn't add anything that I can't create in Sims 3 with all my slider hacks.

What have you experienced in this game that made you glad you bought it? How has the overall experience improved? Are the "smarter sims" and "weirder stories" more satisfying to play? How much do you miss CAST, the open world, pools, toddlers, firefighters, mailmen, etc.? I want to want it, but I just don't yet.

I would like to know this as well. I just don't see myself using the TS4 for a creative outlet. The lack of CASt just kills me and the new aesthetic of the sims doesn't inspire me to create sims either. Just based on the Demo, I haven't seen anything that makes up for those things. But what about the gameplay aspect?

Download the CAS Demo and then browse the gallery to see what other people have made in the Sims already. There are some incredibly creative things that have been made.

I love the gameplay itself, and the speed. I am able to build things as well. It is not as small as you think because you can move between both towns, that gives you 10 venues and home lots. The world is FILLED with people you can interact with.

Right now, for me, TS4 is a game to learn how to play. I miss CASt every time I try to color something. It's very difficult, if non existent, to color coordinate. I haven't built something from scratch yet, but have remodeled a bit. Pulled out some walls on one house and added an upstairs room on another. The roof feature where you adjust the sides to fit the room is neat but I couldn't figure out how to to make the new roof match the existing roof until I used the eyedropper, and Then the roof selections of color & types of roofing material showed up. ? I didn't see that in the roof section of build mode.
It's been difficult for my Sim to find a boyfriend, make extra $$ other than her job and learn skills. Seems the only skill books are in the library. And the Sim needs to be able to harvest fruits, etc to make certain dishes? I'm really not sure h ow that works. Was able to get the produce into a fridge until I moved my Sim to another house and now that doesn't work anymore. My Sim was able to earn extra $$ by selling the extra harvested stuff and her paintings and some crafted items she made with the workbench.
At this point in time I'm afraid I have more negatives toward the game than positives but I've hardly played it much and will certainly keep at learning it. Smile Lots of things to try out yet.

My take -> Challenging: The Sims 4 in One Word - EQ's Opinion
Pluses mainly related to gameplay:
Auto Save
Tons of Sims everywhere to meet and greet
Unique interactions that can be hilarious or horrifying.
Multitasking
Duel relationship status <>Friendship <>Romantic can be different levels.
In-game reward items that help with focus, inspiration, romance etc.
Sims have to actually earn promotions instead of just showing up or work.
There are several tiers required to achieve the Sims' Aspiration as well as another set of tasks to get promotions. This could be seen as both plus or minus.

Building can be very easy with the modular approach. Picking up whole rooms is great!
No more tearing down walls because you want to change layouts.
Move one room or whole house. Did you put the garden in the wrong spot? If it is surrounded by a fence it is considered a room and can be moved in one piece.
Foundations are super cool because they can be added or deleted quickly and efficiently without destroying the whole build. No place to put stairs to get into your house? That's okay ... just place the steps close to the foundation and it creates is own landing. Make it wider or longer til it is perfect.

Granted there is no CAS tool or color wheel and we are all sort of stuck with same pattern/color sets.
And it is true ... unfortunately ... that it is difficult to co-ordinate outfits and or rooms / decor.
That one thing may be why you would not like the game.

But I am having fun just playing the game. There are some interactions and encounters that I may not always like but I am having fun in spite of it.

In the end it is a personal choice.

I am still amazed at the multitasking. My Sim woke up hungry and in need of fun. So I had him grab some cereal and sit on the couch to watch Comedy Central. Both needs met and he ran to work energized!

I was able to get a gold medal on my first date. One of the Romantic interactions of a Geek is "Impress with Gaming Prowess." I laughed at that. My Townie Sim is also a geek, so it really worked!

Once the date was gold-medal, I had the option of proposing. I decided not to at that point, but Eugene did invite her to live. She came with a teenaged little brother. Oops. Well now I have a family and a LOT of cash to expand the house. Marriage will be soon, probably with a party at home, not an event.

This is a game I like playing in, but not necessarily creating in. However, I still feel like that could be because of the learning curve.  I'm not crazy about the way the hoods are set up, but I think that may be because of being so involved with Caw and world creation for the sims 3.  Each sub-neighborhood is actually what we would call a small world in the sims 3.  The town map is basically an interactive graphic that visually connects the worlds. If that makes any sense.  I think custom content and mods are going to play a huge role in the longevity of the game for me. In the end it's different for each player.  You may love it, or you may not.  I'm still keeping an open mind for the moment.  It's hard not wanting all the content, mods, and CC I used in the sims 3 to customize my game just for my needs.  That will come in time.  I've even been reading a lot of modding threads and how-to's so I may be able to start making some of my own, or maybe I'll just develop a greater apriciation for those modders scratch

I was thinking I could be a part of the new development in tools and such, like perhaps start meshing. Frankly my motivation with 4 will soon be over. Then I'm back to my 2 story hard edge walls, but at least I have cast.

050914 ArtDeco by Volvenom, on Flickr

This way of distributing light on a wall is a development and there is quite a few new features I like, but the possibilities for creative outlet on interiors and architecture is so small without cast.

On gameplay, I do very little of that usually and I want some action when I do it. The drinking and talking, or talking while they do workout is so funny:) It's what they do in the gym all the time, and it's so annoying. I want that thing you're suppose to exersize on stupid! The lack of different things to order at the bar is, like only chips everywhere? The lots in both hoods are so equal just the lack of diversity when in world view is annoying me. I guess it will develop though, but I just want to be creative, I don't have time for this silly lack of diversity on interior walls and furniture.

... and the mud everywhere, like there is no real white?

I've had very limited time to spend in the game but I have enjoyed playing it very much. The animations are great and all the new things to do have me excited.

As far as creating builds and sims. I am sure things are very limited compared to Sims 3. I haven't even made a sim since the games release, shocking to me but I am not sure if it is the game or my lack of time.

I am glad that I have it and the number of hours I play it show that I must like it. There are many things I do not like, like the tiny world, no CASt, no toddlers, loading screens, etc. but when I play I get immersed in it and try not to compare it to 3. I think I am getting my money's worth and will like it more when we have more CC, more recolors, more worlds, and so on.

I have spent far more on dinner and theatre tickets in the past where we left the show half way, so I think I am getting fair value here for what I spent. It is fun to try the new things and I love things like the streetcar going by and the riverboat. And the world really is quite beautiful I think.

I think you're spot on Lee. Part of the fun for me is tracking down all the new information, tutorials, mods and what not.

Just a side note, I don't think I've ever spoken the phrase " Spot on" before in my life! Still haven't, just typed it. Rolling Eyes

Thanks to all for your comments. I'm just not seeing it yet. Some of the shots are very pretty. I'm content to watch it from afar. I don't have much time for simming these days, so I'll stick to what I have so far. Multitasking sims and rounded corners aren't enough yet.

I was happier until a few days ago as I could not even start the game for some time and now have many bugs. I have the one that I cannot pay bills and until that is fixed by EA I will play 3 I think. I do not want the power turned off as then may never get it back on again.

Thanks for the input everyone. Though, like Clay, I'm just not seeing it either. I mean it sounds like, if anything, it will be a "playing" game more than a creating game (for ME, that is) and I'm not hearing a lot of wild enthusiasm about that aspect. There is a few new bells and whistles ... but nothing that just screams "PLAY ME NOW".... ::shrug::

BTW - are the walls curved or just foundations? I've seen pictures of foundations sure, but not walls (so I'm guessing not).

There are no curved walls. The decks and foundations are cool but we cannot do walls. I like the game overall but won't be interested in playing it as long as I did with 1,2,3. I think I will have seen what there is to see pretty soon and then be waiting for an EP. I will then have to decide if to stick with it or just stay with 3.

I suspect it may be like Medieval that I tried it, liked it, and went back to 3 and then never started it again. In that game I did not like starting over each time.

In 4 unless we get more worlds asap I will stay with 3 as there will be no room to build, and that is a must for me. And if we cannot create worlds asap that will be a deal breaker for me probably in terms of staying with it.

I love my Sims3, and am considering buying Sims4, I don't like the "building/creating" process in Sims3, and have just enjoyed the "game play", which was odd, because in Sims2, it seems like ALL I did was build, and hardly ever played, I even got into "meshing" (just a little) in Sims2. So I'm thinking I'm gonna go for it and buy the Sims4, now ...Digital Download or go and get the game on Disc? Personally, I like having it in my hands if I'm gonna spend that kind of money ... although some of my Sims3 were Digital Downloads, but most is on disc!

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, it's helped me make up my mind ... Smile

I go all digital. Because discs get lost, scratched or broken.
Either way Sims4 is registered and updated exclusively via Origin. Your choice if you choose the physical copy. Smile

Thanks EQ ... I did just download the Demo and created a sim, which was interesting to say the least, and I must say, it was a much more pleasant experience than in Sims3 thumbs up True, about the disc, so I need to give this some thought, am tempted to download, but hubby's fixing to be off for the next 10 day's, and we have out of town guest coming, so I won't have much time to play anyway, and if I download it now, I'll be wanting to play my game instead of clean house, like I NEED to do giggle

I have hard copies of 1,2,3 and now 4. With the new patch there are more fun things. I still have not played 3 again since 4 came out, so I am liking it even with the limitations. Building in 4 takes a while to get used to but there are good things such as the wall height variations and moving the windows up and down. I started a new lot the other day. The worlds are gorgeous.

Hi Everybody! Sorry I've been MIA. Very busy with a new teaching position and school work.

So EA is really tempting me. I can get the game for half price. I'm really thinking about it now.

I did it! Also grabbed Sims Medieval for $7.99. We'll see if it was worth it, well I'm sure Sims Medieval was, but we'll see about Sims 4.

So I caved today and bought Sims4. I couldn't pass it up for $29.99 at Best Buy - was the last one too! I'm hoping to fire it up tonight or tomorrow.

Cool

I tried it briefly today. Not impressed yet. Making the sims is fun, but I got bored rather quickly once I started playing. I'll try it again later. Haven't fired up Sims Medieval yet.
