Upgrading to a better graphics card. Where can I find information?
I posted this question on the main forum at the above link.
*Does any one here have suggestions?
Is there a good tool to use to find a better graphics card for my current system?
System:
Product name: h8-1214
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Graphics card:
AMD Radeon HD 7450
Current Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Refresh: 60
Version: 8.960.11.1000 (4/25/2012)*This is the latest driver update I could find for this card.
Graphics Memory: 1,662 MB

Yours is better than mine. Just my opinion but if you are not having problems I would see how it does for 4 before doing anything.  I think everyone you talk to will give you a different answer and it depends on what you want to spend.

When I tried 2 others I got as much info. that I could at Frys and Best Buy. I went back a few times so I could talk to different people. And it will depend on your CPU, power, etc.

Have fun! Rolling Eyes

I can play 3 well so am crossing fingers I will be fine for 4. Shall see.

Thank daisylee Big Grin
I am also a shopper when it come to large purchases like this.
The think is I can play Sims 3 but objects are not rendering correctly.
This is one example:

Yikes! They are slow to render or never render? Your drivers are up to date? And when did this start? What did you do just before that?

This happens all the time now or just now and then?

Actually I have been looking for a driver update for a while now. I went back to the original (Oct 2011) just a couple days ago. The driver above (4/25/2012) is the latest one I could find anywhere for this card.

Usually they eventually render. Sometimes it takes longer than others.

Not exactly sure but it has been several weeks (months?) just seems worse lately.
Nothing unusual that I recall. No outside content except the EA Store. Have all except the last venue.

Every time I play.

Cody posted a reply on the forum thread. Once they gather more information they will be ranking the various video cards.
I will still do my own research and appreciate feedback here as well.
He suggested also upgrading the power supply at the same time.
Going to see how much I want to invest.
But I so do like the biggest, bestest and prettiest when it comes to Sims and graphics.

Did you check device manager? I just did and just did a driver update. Now I have to just hope it did not mess up everything.

Am downloading the new catalyst driver now.

Fingers crossed all will be OK.

Got cross eyed staring at the screen.
Any attempts to update via device manager or Hewlett Packard or the AMD site were fruitless.
Just a no so fun merry-go-round that l eat nowhere.
My card version was not listed. After going back to the original drivers I got the last updated through Windows updates.
I was hoping it would be more current.
Shutting down to take a break.
Oh... I am seeing some lucky people have already been able to activate and play already.
Not positive but it seems to be those that went to one of the Sims Camp events.
So jealous! No

WOW! I need to check that out.

I did one graphics card update through Windows a while back and it totally messed up everything. I will never do that again. I guess I should look at the driver date I have now. I guess I should have looked before I did it! Laughing

I sure hope you can get things running OK. Maybe 4 will like it better than 3.

I'm jealous!  It's bad enough the same people get chosen again and again to go to these sims camps, now they're getting the game early!  I'm more than jealous, I'm P_____! rant

Bookmarked that link.
RE: Early access
rant = Me too rant
Especially if it is targeted at those specific people.
Nothing against the people in particular.
But the way EA/Maxis does not give equal opportunity to everyone.

Don't get me started on Early Access. Seeing I've been able to pre download and the game is sitting on my computer why can't I play it now? Why do I have to wait till Friday? I really don't see why it can't be a world wide release. Grrrrrrr! rant

It makes no sense for there to be different dates.

I am installing now. Smile

Everywhere for everyone would be the way to go.
I would think Suspect the time zone differences would allow for
varied release times/dates.
Hope all can have the option to play if they want soon.

My graphics card seems to be doing well so far. The game started on Medium automatically. But the grass looked like green mud.

I changed to Ultra and it looks better. I did a capture of my settings which I will post here later after work.

mts updates a list of graphics cards for sims 3 and how they perform: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements

I guess it's a bit too early for sims4 yet.

Looking good from here Wink

This is what Ultra settings are without me making any additional tweaks.
