Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 Sims2error_zpsa5ea2285

I'm running Windows 8.1. I don't think I ever registered my Sims 2 games with Origin, but I did at the now defunct Sims 2 site. I bought all expansions and most SPs, but have not installed them on this computer.

I got that message after I had used CCCleaner. I uninstalled and re-installed and it worked fine as stated above..

Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sims 2 FAQ   Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 EmptyTue Jul 29, 2014 10:00 am

I'll have to try that. I use CC Cleaner almost every day. Now, I have to decide if I want to risk the securom or not. It did quite a number on my old machine back in the day...

ETA: Decided to go for it. I bought a few stuff packs through Origin so Securom is already on my machine. Also, a brand new computer will be easy to reset to factory settings if needed. Wish me luck!

ETAA: OK, it's working. How the heck do I add Custom Content. I've totally forgotten everything.

ETAAA: It's so easy, just create a downloads folder, link: HERE The sims are so freaking ugly! Gotta get some new defaults in.

ETAAAA: Got defaults in. I was quite a sims creator back in the Sims 2 heyday, but it's rather cumbersome now. I really miss different body types. They do exist and I used them extensively before, but Sims 3 has me spoiled now. I'll probably play Strangetown for a bit, and post about it. It's not going to be about creating sims and fantasy worlds now. I'll keep that in Sims 3.

ETAAAAA: I'd like to use Body Shop Mechanic. I used it back in the day to make bodyshop better, but I'm having trouble with the Origin version.

I just added this questions to the list.

  • How do you take a vacation day from work? If your Sim has vacation days, keep your Sim home from work and about an hour before quitting time they will get paid. One vacation day will be deducted from their total.

Any idea what is causing this?

Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 Snapshot_ed7b3373_40e43fd8_zpsc8260f23

There's a black rectangle below all of my sims indoors. No doubt, it's some kind of CC I've added.

Also, I distinctly remember using print screen to take pictures within the game, but that doesn't seem to work anymore, I just get a shot of my desktop.

I love the little video scenes when something happens in the game. Quite charming actually.

SimsVIP has an answer to that.

CW I had that in my game as well.  This is the solution I used to fix it.

Thanks for the quick replies, I did solve the problem. I had to select a lot first, then change the shadow options. I couldn't do it from the main menu screen, it was greyed out.

You need a separate program to capture images from the game with print screen. I'm trying Fraps. It works, but you can only save as a bmp in the free version. Of course you can change that in an image editing program, but it's a pain. That's one thing they really improved in Sims 3.

I use the Snipping tool for screen images but that would only work for Windows mode.

I use the method shown here for screenshots. If I want to show the UI then I have to change to window mode and then I use the snipping tool.

Can someone please explain again how to play Sims2 in window mode?
I'd like to use the print screen tool once in a while.

I know this question has been asked and answered somewhere. Excuse my blindness I couldn't find it again. scratch

Thanks

Hi Le, I asked the same thing. You need to change the shortcut on your desktop (this is for The Ultimate Collection) Be sure to click Apply after following the instructions.

That is the new home of The Sims forums. All the old threads were migrated there to combine Sims 3 and Sims4.
I am glad they added the section to share other versions as well.  The new forum layout is very different.  I have yet to see a place for a Signature or a good way to link back to Sims 3 studio.

I did the part where you add the "w"  but sometime when you open the game the window has changed to where you can't see the (minimize, full, and X) at the top right of the screen.  Windowed is so much better to play the game.   Smile

There's a lot of good information here. I DL'ed the ultimate collection and have just started playing.
I'd forgotten just how hard the game is. Surprised
I have a save but would like to make a second save so I can learn all over again how to edit community lots.
I've forgotten most everything about the game.
I see no option, like in Sims 3 to start a new game so my question is,, How do you start a new save? scratch
I'm afraid that if I just choose a new world in the menu, it will overwrite the save I already have.

I cannot really remember but I THINK as long as it is another world it will create a new save file.

PostSubject: Re: Sims 2 FAQ   Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 EmptySun Dec 14, 2014 5:26 pm

That is what I was thinking but was afraid to try. giggle My idea of trying to learn all over was to start a game and choose the Frat Brothers in Uni. That probably wasn't the best plan I've ever had but so far they all look like they'll be graduating with honors. It's been a little frustrating and amusing with a lot of work involved and I was afraid to lose all the progress by starting a new save.
Thank you for your reply and Happy Holidays to you. holly

PostSubject: Re: Sims 2 FAQ   Sims 2 FAQ - Page 2 EmptySun Dec 14, 2014 7:32 pm

Hi Catz. You can start a new save by creating a new world using the 'maps' available. Click on the last icon in the main screen. It should say something like create new neighbourhood with a plus sign on it. It will create a blank map. There are a lot to choose from. All of the Maxis created neighbourhoods are there. You will have to build houses and community lots or place pre-made lots.

All of the original neighbourhoods that came with the game, Pleasantview etc., can only be used once, but if you want to start over again from scratch you have to delete the original one. There are instructions on the EA website how to replace the Maxis neighbourhoods and start from new again.

Instructions here:
How to Reset Towns in The Sims 2

You can create a new neighbourhood using SimCity 4.

Guide to Creating Custom Neighbourhoods

You can also search MTS and TSR for Hoods made by the community.

Good luck!
