PostSubject: Susinok's Career Challenge   Wed Jun 26, 2013 6:30 pm

I had an idea for a challenge which I may make for myself. I have a bad habit of using the same traits and careers all of the time. So to force myself to try other things. I thought of an idea of a legacy family that starts in Sunset Valley with the base game, and once the careers are exhausted there, Move to the next town (ambitions? Twinbrook?) and the next generations do those careers/lifetime wishes, and then move on through all the expansion towns. I can use the new Move Town function to preserve the heritage.

Below is my master list of careers. I've decided I have so many games, that all families in all my games can participate, not just the Tesslers in Sunset Valley. Not sure if I'll hop them to other towns or just add lots as they need careers. We'll see. I am going to fill in the Sims I know have maxed their career down below now from my various legacies. As you can see it's a short list. I'm not overly concerned most of the time on completing a career, but it does happen. Smile

The Sims listed below completed all levels of the career listed.

One note... from what I have read from the Gurus only the family in the household will maintain their relationships. You can pack paintings and such in personal inventory and other things in family inventory.

It will take a long, long time. I am on generation 30 of my family now and have probably maxed about 2/3 of the careers so far. I need to check my excel sheet. I manage to get about 2 careers and/or LTW completed each generation and often have to age freeze sims to make it.  I have a bad habit of not registering self-employed sims way too often. I have maxed the fortuneteller ones I think and painter since I updated my records.

That is a really long list. Still, I think I will give it a shot. I didn't think about each branch. I should write down the ones I've maxed on that list of yours.

It is a long list if you include the self employed ones. If I have missed any, please let me know. I try to update when EPs come out but may have missed something.

I was just thinking I would not play Beallara who wants to be a superstar athlete as Celeste maxed sports, but then remembered Celeste had a different LTW, so if I want the Superstar Athlete LTW done, need to continue with Beallara. I have had a lot of cases where the LTW did not match the career, so that makes it more of a pain/challenge to get them all done.   Rolling Eyes

Are you doing your challenges with the same family? Or is this over multiple games? I like the idea of the traveling family. Maybe stay about 3 generations per town until the careers and LTWs have been knocked out. I know that Showtime and Pets will be a huge challenge for me. No Sim I've played has ever ridden a horse, for example. So being a show jumper or racer, hmmm...

I play just my one family that I started when the game came out. I have only played others for some stories and things like the scavenger hunts. Edith, my avatar, is from the hunts.

Let me see if I can remember the history again.
Sunset Valley, Storm Island, Greek Island, Appaloosa, Xterra, Spider, and now IP. They had very, very, very brief stays in TW and SS.  So, they are averaging 5 generations per world, so far.

My family usually has 8 sims, so cannot get a lot done for all of them. I just moved Plante 2 docks down to a houseboat as did not want to spend all my time playing a lifeguard yet. I had too much going on. Even though it is hard to do, to make some sims in the family second fiddle, I need to do that to get at least a few maxed in careers and/or the LTW done.

The family has so many simoleans that usually a few do not get jobs and take care of the kids or get self-employed ones. Those are the sims that hardly ever max them

Just do whatever is most fun for you. My moves have tended to be when worlds I made were ready or a new EP came out with a world I like.

Smile

edit:  the mistake I make is with someone like Paul when they were in Appaloosa. He and his horse maxed riding and he got his horseman related LTW, but l totally forgot to register him as a horseman until he was pretty far along, so he made it to level 6 there as I recall. So I will need to run another Sim all the way up the ladder again to get that job maxed.

Sounds like an interesting challenge. Possibly you could have one generation do more than one job.

Example:
Husband get a job in the military and wife get a job in culinary.
Husband maxes military, but wife is delayed by childbirth.
Husband moves on to Law Enforcement.
Wife finally completes culinary and moves on to politics.

and so on.

This could be possible if the age was set to long. I did a challenge once at Carl's where two Sims were required to compete four careers each and could not duplicate. Children were optional in that challenge. Aging was set to long and no cheats were allowed. It was fun and I did mange to complete it.

I have been playing with this idea. I have all of the EPs and most of the SPs installed so I didn't want to limit myself to the use of only base game.

I created a female Sim, Harmony Walters, and set her to preparing for university. Her LTW was Culinary Librarian which she achieved when she got to level 6 of the cooking skill. She then went to Uni and got her Fine Arts degree in one go. Very hard with 3 classes a day for two weeks, 2 weeks/36 credits choice.  I got her the job in culinary. She met Christopher Steele in SV and married him. He worked hard at his skills until he was able to get 18 credits in his aptitude test for the Science and Medical degree. He also did the degree in one go the same as above. He got the job in the Science career when he got home. His LTW was Perfect Aquarium and he achieved this once home from Uni. It worked out well with his Science career.

Harmony has reached the top of the Culinary career. The plan for her is to stay at home with the triplets until her maternity leave runs out. The triplets should have aged to children by then and will be in school. She will then upload her resume and move to the other career for the Fine Arts degree, Music. She is practicing her guitar. Christopher has reached the top of the Science career and sent his resume out and changed to the Medical career. He is way behind in logic. That degree didn't prepare him for that.

My plan is for one degree each Sim for each generation and to do the careers associated with those degrees. All of the base game careers are covered by those degrees. With the triplets in the second generation I should be able to do 3 more degrees and the associated careers. Maybe even 4 if one of them gets married. If able to do 4 that would be all of the base game careers done by generation 2.

I love this idea, but I think that it would take too long to do only one career per Sim per generation. I am definitely having fun with it.

You are going to be very busy! You are better at getting sims to the top of their careers faster than I am. It takes my sims forever, especially when at the higher levels as they have so many days off. I have one sim that is taking forever to get promotions even though she meets all the qualifications. And one sim I hardly play seems to climb as fast if not faster than she does. Go, figure! Maybe if I ignore them they will do better. Laughing
