I think it is about time they have taken too long in my opinion they have been draining the Sims 3 for profit. The Sims 3 engine is old as far as games go and the models are very basic. A lot of games are using video capture now to give more realistic movement and emotion to the characters and is definitely something to look forward to. Simmers need to realize there is no game that is even close to the style of play in the Sims franchise and that gives EA an advantage in the market probably why they have held off on the Sims 4. I only hope they improve the engine so it is more up to date with other recent game and they don't re-release the typical swag of expansions they have done with the last 2 incarnations of the game. Some fresh, new, never explored expansion ideas should be on the front line of their planned releases. This new island Paradise is an excellent example of the innovative ideas they need to release at the beginning of the games life. Too many times I have been tempted to use my Sims 3 disc as a Frisbee due to EA's management of the game. I am loyal to the Sims game not to EA if anything needs to be improved in the franchise it would be the management by EA IMO. I will definitely buy it when it comes out (hope my computer can handle it lol). And knowing EA it will be DRM although in reading about online playing, EA from what I understand is very skeptical about an online game due to the massive failure of The Sims Online years ago and apparently there are big problems with the new Sim City online but that's all conjecture and speculation. Allowing it to be played online and offline like the Sims 3 style would be great cant wait to read more news (while I also wait for news of The Elder Scrolls Online and Bethesda's "new" project that they stopped releasing DLC for Skyrim to work on) Looks like 2014 is going to be a huge year for games for me Smile HappyTrio Celebrate

The number 1 reason made me interested again, I kept hearing that they were going to make it fully online with other's.. and since I pause a game and walk off... well.... I wasn't sure how exactly they were going to do that...

Update! The Sims 3 Twitter has tweeted a tease about the thing that happens in under an hour. Looks like the Simlish on The Sims 4 site will finally be translated!

Maybe some of you wonder if I will continue with Sims 4 and if there will be a Help Blog for Sims 4. Well, I can't answer that yet. There's not enough info out to make a decision and many factors will influence that. I probably won't make a final decision until shortly before release. Nevertheless, I'm following the news at forums and websites atm. Yesterday, EA decided to tease us with the code on their website here: Nichtsdestotrotz folge ich zur Zeit dem Geschehen in den Foren und den Webseiten. Gestern hat EA etwas Neues zu den Code auf der Webseite hier: http://thesims.com/en_US/thesims4 Translating this code from simlish gives us a latin text which starts with Lorem Ipsum, a text commonly used as placeholder in new blogs or to show of templates or other reasons. Nothing really interesting. Yesterday, EA changed some of the text to names: Rachel Franklin (SimGuruRachel), Jill Johnson (SimGuruJill), Aaron Cohen (SimGuruAaron), Lyndsay Pearson (SimGuruLynday). Each name is a new guru, involved in Sims 4, that you can now follow on twitter. Below is the solution to the code as far as we know it now. Putting it in spoiler tags for those who wanna try themselves.

The information is not really that great but it's all we have atm and we might just get more info soon

I am torn about this. I played Sims 1 with all the expansions, then Sims 2, now Sims 3. The play really has not changed all that much and the expansions mirror each other quite a bit over the three different iterations. So we get to start over with the base game. Again. Sigh.

Knowing me I will go for it, but so far I am not excited like I was for the arrivals of 2 and 3. We will know a lot more in August. Unless there is something really different and WOW about it I may not rush into it. I still am very happy with 3.

OK guys, apparently there was a survey(s) out there for The Sims 4 (no I didn't take it) and here's what came out of those survey(s).

Lets have a discussion.

Quote :
Possible features:

*World Creation Tool - With the world creation tool you can change the terrain, place environmental objects, and create a custom backdrop for your Sims' neighborhood.
*Real-Time Co-Op Gameplay - Invite a friend into your game to play cooperatively, share a home and manage your Sims together all in one online world that continually evolves even when you're away.
*Wardrobe Moodlets - Outfit your Sims with a diverse range of clothing and aspire to get your Sims' selective fashion items that can directly affect their mood.
*Aspirations - Assign your Sims a long-term goll called an Aspiration then achieve it by having your Sims compete relevant short-term goals throughout their life.
*Cradle to Grave - Sims can experience age-specific gameplay and a true life cycle with big life moments such as birth, marriage, and death.
*New CAS System - Just like modeling clay, Create a Sim is a powerful, easy-to-use tool that lets you directly sculp face or body features by clicking and dragging to perfection.
*Events - Easily host or attend events with your Sims to earn rewards, complete goals, enhance skills or jobs and discover new storytelling and relationship possibilities with neighbors!
*Featured Looks - With Featured Looks you choose from a catalog of curated styles and outfit your Sims in designer looks with just one click.
*Magazine View - Flip through Magazine View to choose from pre-configured, fully furnished room layouts, then drop the entire room into your home with just one click.
*Group Socializing - Your Sims social interactions are more realistic and lifelike in social groupings.
*Remote Sim Share - Use Remote Sim Share on the web, your mobile device or tablet to browse The Sims community's creations then queue them up for download to your PC.
*Multitasking - For the first time in The Sims, your Sims can now multitask by doing many actions at once, such as enjoy a drink while talking to friends and watching TV, giving them more realistic living and social behaviors.
*Create a Sim Mobile - Harness the powerful new Create a Sim tool on your mobile device to create Sims on the go, then upload to your The Sims 4 game on your PC.
*Traits - Create unique Sims with traits that change the way they can interact with the world around them. Watch as your decisions cause Sims' traits to evolve and lead to surprising moments.
*Live Stream - Use this built-in tool your game to an online streaming provider and give The Sims community the opportunity to watch you play.
*Levels of Emotions - Your Sims' emotions have varying levels of advancement, giving you the power and control to push their emotions to the extremes creating new and interesting gameplay opportunities to explore.
*Account Achievements - Unlock Account Achievements for completing in-game tasks and earning accomplishments, then share or compare your progress with your friends.
*Personalized Neighborhoods - Each section of a neighborhood is yours to personalize through shared content or Maxis creations thay you place yourself.
*Reward System
*Integrated Sim Share
*Player-Run Events
*Mobile Stats App
*Environment Impact
*New Build System
*Expressiveness
*Mobile Mini-Games
*Memory Moodlets

http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/687938.page

Several things that are raising red flags to me:

*Real-Time Co-Op Gameplay - Invite a friend into your game to play cooperatively, share a home and manage your Sims together all in one online

- sounds like SC2013 where you can make a private region and just invite your friends that you want to play with.

*Remote Sim Share - Use Remote Sim Share on the web, your mobile device or tablet to browse The Sims community's creations then queue them up for download to your PC.

- sounds iffy to me.  I don't know what this means exactly

*Live Stream - Use this built-in tool your game to an online streaming provider and give The Sims community the opportunity to watch you play.

- hell no, I don't want anyone to watch how I [s]command[/s] erm play my sims!!

*Account Achievements - Unlock Account Achievements for completing in-game tasks and earning accomplishments, then share or compare your progress with your friends.

- sounds like one of those Achievement leaderboards from SC2013.  For those of you that play that game, you know what I'm talking about.  This means you need to be online and playing with others in order to get the achievement.

I'm definitely waiting for more info but I'm not so sure I want this game anymore.

EA assured everyone that the game could be played single-player/offline  - so I am counting on that

But as for "Account Achievements" - I really don't want that either....

btw - what is your source?

In the ever evolving real life world I would expect advancements in many forms of technology including PC and other types of games. I am not expecting a rehash of all the previous versions of the Sims universe and am for changes in Sims 4 but some of these are NOT what I would like to have in my game.
Quote :
*Real-Time Co-Op Gameplay - Invite a friend into your game to play cooperatively, share a home and manage your Sims together all in one online world that continually evolves even when you're away.
I want to keep my singular player game experience. I do not want to go back in game to see my Eternally Faithful couple divorced.  Nor do I want to see my single Sims pregnant by some unknown party (unless I say so) or any myriad of unwitnessed disasters happening in my household.
Quote :
*Remote Sim Share - Use Remote Sim Share on the web, your mobile device or tablet to browse The Sims community's creations then queue them up for download to your PC.
What does this even mean?
Quote :
*Personalized Neighborhoods - Each section of a neighborhood is yours to personalize through shared content or Maxis creations that you place yourself.
If I wanted to play Sim City then that is what I would play. I prefer to keep the games separate. And don't we do this with Edit Town now? Yes... we should keep the Edit feature.
Quote :
*Reward System
Another question mark. Maybe like Aspiration Rewards? Then okay.
Quote :
*Integrated Sim Share
*Player-Run Events
*Mobile Stats App
Um ... No ... no ... and ... umm .. no!
Quote :
*Live Stream - Use this built-in tool your game to an online streaming provider and give The Sims community the opportunity to watch you play.
Something I would most likely not use but understand how this would be appealing.

It is just a survey ... let's hope EA / Maxis uses some reason when developing the game.

Laughing  Sorry, didn't mean to sound so dramatic.. just a few things bugging me.  I realize that they said we can play the game offline but will that mean that if we don't go online, we miss out on half the game?  That's my concern.. same concern I had with ShowTime and in the end, I didn't get Showtime because I knew I would never use Simport so I'd miss out on half the EP.

In a way the current Badge and in-game gifting system is encouragement to play while logged in.
I do have Showtime but do not use Simport so have not unlocked any of the special content. Cannot miss what you do not have.
Another topic of discussion in the community on facebook, blogs and other forums is asking for the total elimination of rabbitholes. To me that would be boring and tedious and a BIG mistake.

I definitely don't miss in-game gifting Smile As for rabbitholes, I would like it if EA gave us both options. I know not everyone likes RH's but speaking for myself, RH's save my sanity. I cannot and will not micromanage every single sim thru their work day. If EA does that then most of my sims will be self employed or I'd never have a family, just single sims so I can take care of them. Overall, eliminating RH's would definitely be as you said, "boring, tedious and a BIG mistake."

So far reading what was said I see nothing that looks that different from what we have now to make me want to switch over, that looks terribly exciting to me. I definitely am not interesting in the online options. I guess for me the big item is what the graphics and sims will be like. I think that will make it or break it for me. At some point if we want to continue we probably will need to move on as Sims 3 is supported less and less, but so far nothing is WOW for me yet.

---
Possible features:

*World Creation Tool - good, and  I will want a full CAW and not just changes in game.

*Real-Time Co-Op Gameplay - Not wanted. Probably would try once and then never do again. Like Simport.

*Wardrobe Moodlets - sheesh, not interested

*Aspirations - aspirations, LTW .... pretty much the same thing. The short-term goals sound good as I like adventures.

*Cradle to Grave - we have this now

*New CAS System - improvements would be good for more variety in the looks of sims.

*Events - Easily host or attend events with your Sims to earn rewards, complete goals, enhance skills or jobs and discover new storytelling and relationship possibilities with neighbors!  - will need to learn more

*Featured Looks - probably would not use

*Magazine View - would try and then never use again probably

*Group Socializing - Your Sims social interactions are more realistic and lifelike in social groupings. - OK if an offline improvement

*Remote Sim Share - nope

*Multitasking - For the first time in The Sims, your Sims can now multitask by doing many actions at once, such as enjoy a drink while talking to friends and watching TV, giving them more realistic living and social behaviors. - they can do that now, but more would be nice

*Create a Sim Mobile - nope

*Traits - again, would need more information about the differences from what we have

*Live Stream - IMO ridiculous! watch someone else play????

*Levels of Emotions - need more info.

*Account Achievements - yawn, almost everyone I know does not play online and does not play/use the current achievements.

*Personalized Neighborhoods - we have this now

*Reward System  ??
*Integrated Sim Share  - nope
*Player-Run Events ???
*Mobile Stats App - not interested
*Environment Impact ??
*New Build System - that I want to see
*Expressiveness ??
*Mobile Mini-Games - nope
*Memory Moodlets  - nope, I do not want memories at all

Soooooo, reading this all again, unless major improvements in doing the worlds, sims, lots ..... there is not much of interest to me so far.
-------------
edit: I do not mind the RH if they keep the game to a size that we can play without blowing up our computers. I would like to be able to recolor them though. And give us a few options for each, say a modern and traditional version.

Lis, Showtime is cool and fun to play and you do not have to simport. All it does is unlock more stage items, and you can get them elsewhere. I have them all from elsewhere and have maxed singers and acrobats and magicians without simporting. It is fun to see them perform, I think.

It would be great to get a closer view of facial features in CAH and be able to make more finite adjustments. Quality graphics and diverse game play options are also on my list.
I do not want everything at once but also do not want a vanilla base game either.

I think this time around most folks will want weather or will not get it. I do not want to wait years and hundreds of dollars later before weather comes. I also think they will need to include working restaurants from the get go. I am one of the people that is not happy about not getting them in 3. I think they are going to have to do a lot to entice us to make the change, again.

I agree. I do not want to start from scratch with a bare bones game and pay each time for features I have right now. To me Sims 3 is just about perfect, with weather, university, pets, vacations, resorts, and now the water stuff. Who wants to start over with a base game?

I know they cannot include everything as the game would be too big and too expensive, and they will want the simoleans coming in over the years with EPs, but I think they will need to include quite a bit more in the base game this time than in the last 2.

I actually would like something like a totally different theme such as was done in Medieval where all matches the theme. A very futuristic Jetsons type world for example with maybe floating houses, elevated highways, hover cars, who knows what. But as too specific and as it would appeal to only some folks, I think EA will do another generic game. But IMO we need something radically different to make us want to move forward.

I agree. I do not want to start from scratch with a bare bones game and pay each time for features I have right now. To me Sims 3 is just about perfect, with weather, university, pets, vacations, resorts, and now the water stuff. Who wants to start over with a base game?

Agree! & Agree!

These are my thoughts exactly, starting with a bare bones base game is not appealing to me either, that's why I've spent oodles of money on all the expansions! I seriously waste enough time and money on sims 3 - more than any other game I own! Sims 4 is going to have to knock my socks off to get me to start over. afraid 2

Lis, Showtime is cool and fun to play and you do not have to simport. All it does is unlock more stage items, and you can get them elsewhere. I have them all from elsewhere and have maxed singers and acrobats and magicians without simporting. It is fun to see them perform, I think.

I'm sure Showtime is cool and fun but 2 reasons why I didn't bother with it.

1. I wasn't interested in what the overall EP had to offer and singers that couldn't sing with the band.. what's that about? Singers should be able to sing with the band.
2. Simport. I object to this half assed version of EA shoving "online" capabilities at us. I voted with my wallet. I refuse to buy this EP. Bad enough that we can log in-game and shop the store and post on the official site of what achievements/memories that happens in our game.

Of course I missed out on the new town, pool tables, karaoke machines, DJ booths, new guitars, batons, microphones, spotlights, speaker systems, pull up bars, jukeboxes, an electro-dance sphere, golf-game, domino, skeeball game, photo booth, a golf driving range, portable MP3 players, and the interactions that come with it but I can live with it.

Sounds like a lot of 'young' stuff to me.

Yes, it will need to be pretty special for me to try it. At this point just not interested a lot of what's going to be.
