I have been working on and off with this challenge I haven't made a great deal of progress but wanted to post what I have as I would like others to add to this challenge if they like. Also I don't play a lot of challenges so some feedback on the difficulty and interest generated would be great Smile Items in red are either unfinished yet or ideas I am not sure of using yet.
Items in blue color are new changes to the rules.


RACE TO SPACE Challenge WIP


In this challenge your Sims own a derelict space craft that they live in. The goal is for the space crew to gain skills and specific items to repair the craft and plan a voyage into space. The “Space Transport 101” lot must be used in playing this challenge.

The Space Crew is made up of four characters these can be re created by the player but must follow the described criteria(not yet finished). Each member will have specific jobs and require specific skills to complete the tasks associated with their jobs. Sims can travel abroad and attend University outside of any tasks.

When creating your own crew the only rules to follow are :- The crew must choose the following traits for each of the roles that are filled.

Captain :- Traits : Brave, Charismatic, Athletic, other two chosen by player
LTW:- Become an Astronaut

Lieutenant Firstmate:- Traits: Disciplined,Natural Cook, Artistic, other two chosen by player
LTW:- Professional Author

Lt. Science officer:- Traits : Genius, Gatherer, Computer Wizz other two chosen by player LTW:- Monster Maker

Sargent Engineer:- Traits : Handy, Genius, Eccentric other two chosen by player
LTW:- The Tinkerer


Captain:- Must join the military career

First mate :- Must join self employed writer ( I am considering, business career or culinary career other suggestions are welcome. ATM the main task is cooking and the other task can be changed if the career is changed. A non self employed career would leave only 2 Sims on the lot for long periods making things a little more manageable which may require more difficult goals to keep things challenging )

Science Officer:- has no career, earns money from collecting, searching the galaxy, hacking, Logic and Alchemy skill based activities. If using the University Expansion pack Alchemy skill is replaced with the Science Skill.

Engineer:- Must join self employed inventor career.

The Space Crew do not have a specific work time, except the Captain which is based on the military career, they can complete the tasks at any time but may need to complete specific tasks before the next task becomes available. There are general Tasks and role specific Tasks that need to be completed role specific Tasks can only be completed by the Sim assigned to that role.

Tasks General :-Each task completed gives the player a set number of points, at the end of the challenge the points are tallied. Using the Goal Points table below the player determines his level of success. (I'm thinking of adding a time limit to the challenge but will have to wait until I can find time to play the challenge. The table below is only a guide at the moment)

The Space Transport 101 lot must be upgraded by 150,000 Simoleons to represent the repairs required. The upgrade can be to anything on the lot it is the lots total value at the end of upgrades that is used to total the 150,000 extra Simoleons. The total of upgrade value can be found by noting the property value, in buy/build mode, when you start and then adding 150,000 to the value this would be your property upgrade value goal. The property furnished value will be accurate to your property upgrade total. Remember it is the property value that is the goal not the particular items. The property value does not include the money available to the household for spending.[/color] [color=red]Each task completed gives the player a set number of points, at the end of the challenge the points are tallied. The Crew must befriend and move in to the household an Alien. (Points : 2)

Tasks Role Specific :-

Captain:-
Must reach level 10 of military career (Points : 4)
Must have maxed skills in, Athletic, Charisma (Points : 2/Skill)
Must complete Marathon Runner challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete the Personable challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete Life Time Wish (Points : 4)
Must complete a University Degree in Physical Education(Points : 2)

First mate:-
Must reach level 10 writer career (Point : 4)
Must have maxed skills in Writing, Cooking (Points : 2/Skill)
Must complete the Prolific Writer challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete the Star Chef challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete Life Time Wish (Points : 4)
Must complete a University Degree in Communication (Points : 2)

Science Officer:-
Must have maxed skills in Logic, Alchemy, Science skill replaces Alchemy if the University expansion pack is available. (Points : 2/Skill)
Must Complete all Collecting challenges (hidden skill found in journal)(Points : 4)
Must find 4 units of Tiberium (cannot be grown bought or cheated for must be found) (Points : 2)
Must complete the Celestial Explorer challenge (Points : 2)
Must Solve the unsolvable (This is replaced with the Task below if using University) (Points : 2)
Must complete the Free Range Scientist challenge (if using University) (Points : 2)
Must complete Life Time Wish (Points : 4)
Must complete a University Degree in Science and Medicine or Technology (Points : 2)

Engineer:-
Much reach level 10 inventor career (Points : 4)
Must have maxed skills in Inventing, Handiness (Points : 2/skill)
Must build at least one Harvester (Points : 2)
Must build at least one Digger (Points : 2)
Must build one Simbot (Points : 2)
Must Complete the Scrap collector challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete the Master Inventor challenge (Points : 2)
Must complete Life Time Wish (Points : 4)
Must complete a University Degree in Technology (Points : 2)

Each task completed gives the player a set number of points, at the end of the challenge the points are tallied. Using the Goal Points table below the player determines his level of success. (I'm thinking of adding a time limit to the challenge but will have to wait until I can find time to play the challenge.) (I came up with a total of 80 points to complete all crew tasks the general task total is 6 giving the challenge total 86 points, if someone wants to check that they are welcome too Smile

Just to let you know (but some would already) I am editing the original post when adding new conditions and rules to the challenge. On my computer it doesn't mention the edit in the new post section of the challenge menu so any who are interested should probably check back periodically Smile

Looks interesting. Maybe you could put a little *NEW* after anything that you changed. Make it easier to scan for changes.

Will attending University be allowed?
Perhaps the Science officer could have a 'Bonus' goal of reaching level 10 Science Skill

Cool Certainly sounds intriguing.

You could always post a new message indicating what changes you made (or just that you made some) so that the challenge menu would also update. (?)

You list of titles between traits and jobs don't match (except for captain). I'm assuming they are in the same order?

Are you saying that things can only be "upgraded"? (Like a one-for-one swap with a new thing of the same type?)

Maybe I'm not following.. but it seems like it would be very tedious/complicated to keep track of how much the house was upgraded. Especially figuring out how much items found/gained without buying (I'm assuming collectibles, gifts, paintings etc.) added to the value of the house. The conventional ways of determine how much a house is worth don't make that distinction.

What is an example of a "New item not on the lot"?

The crew where in the wrong order with the engineer and science officer. I have changed it and added their job title to their rank.


A new item is anything you buy for the lot that isn't already there so if you buy a vehicle it is new as there is not one to upgrade. The total of upgrade value can be found by noting the property value, in buy/build mode, when you start and then adding 150,000 to the value this would be your property upgrade value goal.

I have re written the Property Value section I hope that is a little easier to understand and thanx for the feed back k2m1too Smile

I have added a little more to the rules but I still have no time to play it; to much in RL and then building and the little time I have to play my way lol. I am not big on playing challenges I'am not very competitive this is just the style I play but I don't use rules or goals. So if others would like to step up and play test that would be great. The most important thing for the challenge atm would be to gauge a time frame that the game (in game time) could reasonably be completed. Having a few people do this would be good then an average could be determined giving the challenge a fairly reasonable time limit.

RL has me in a bit of a choke hold at the moment.
Work production goals getting insane. With several team members out on medical leave or vacation it puts an extra load on the rest.
And I just got the "good" news I will be a team leader starting in June. Not a supervision role .... just a go to person to keep the management team from being bogged down. Hooray... more stress for me. *Insert sarcasm*

ouch is it "the go to gal" or the "scape goat", hope it goes good for you though. I have managed to sort my stuff out a bit and other things have come up to replace them lol due to their nature I am looking at a great deal of spare time so I am going to print out the challenge and give it a go might take me a while though lol. I am enjoying playing my fishermen on his boat to much Smile
