PostSubject: Upon Us All A Little Rayne Must Fall - Rain in my Shoes Challenge - Startlight Shores   Wed Dec 19, 2012 10:59 pm

Summer Rayne, daughter of the famous Country and Western singer, Fleeting Rayne, has grown tired of living in her mother's shadow and decides to strike it out on her own.

Fleeting is not pleased with this and decides to cut her off from the family funds. "I started with nothing but the clothes on my back, and so will you!"

Summer hitched her way to Starlight Shores, the music mecca, and found a promising, if small, piece of land to lay her sleeping bag. It was centrally located and right next to the park.

"Summer Rayne arrives in Starlight Shores!", she cried.

First she finds an old newspaper to see what is happening. Not much at all today it seems.

Next she goes to the park next door and finds some produce. She also notices there are fish jumping in the pond. This looks promising, she thinks. She found 8 bananas, 3 peppers and 2 lettuce. She won't be hungry for a while.

Then she gets lucky! She finds wildflowers, some rare enough to bring $600.

She runs around and picks as many as she can find.

They wreak havoc with her allergies but she persists and gets enough money ($800) to buy a sleeping bag and a guitar.

The spends a little time on her home plot strumming and getting familiar with her new instrument.

Soon she's tapping her toes and making music. She heads back to the park to find more wildflowers and to use the restroom.

She stumbles on a picnic basket and has some dinner. She figures the produce can be saved for later when she's not so lucky.

She is about to go to sleep, it's been an eventful day, when a total stranger changes into a robe and goes to sleep in her bag!

How Rude!

Summer manages to wake him up and get him out of there. Finally she can lay her head down to rest.

End of day 1 stats:

1,115 Simoleans, own 1 sleeping bag and 1 guitar plus some produce. Lot value 1,250 - barren still.

Day 2 - Feeling Festive!

There was a minor setback. While Summer was sleeping in the park, the festival came to town and it kicked her out and kept her sleeping bag! She wasted another 100 simoeans and went back to sleep on her home plot.

She was determined to not let that ruin her mood!

So she fell back asleep under the Starlight Shores... stars.

The next morning her allergies were still bad, she smelled bad, and had a kink in her back.

She took the taxi over to the firehouse. She would have walked but she was so smelly she felt it was critical!

She also scrounged a bowl of cereal from them. No one seemed to be there at all.

After washing her bowl, she headed back to the park. This time to attend the Summer Festival.

While there she practiced her guitar some more. She's at level 3 now and needs to be at 5 to play for tips. More wildflowers netted her quite a bit more money.

For dinner she entered the hot dog eating contest.

Which she won! The festival closed before she could cash in her tickets, but she got dinner and tickets to buy something at the booths.

It was dark and the park, even the bathrooms, were closed to visitors, so she headed home and back to sleep.

End of day 2 - $2,060, 1 guitar, 1 sleeping bag, 25 festival tickets.

How do you guys keep track of the days and weeks in a Sims game? Once Summer has a house and maybe a job, the days will fly by faster and I will lose track of the days and weeks. Is there a place in the settings that show you where you are in a game?

At the bottom of the screen there is a spot telling you the day of the week.
When you hover over it you will see the week and day you have been playing that save.
Something like Week 2 Day 1 will be what you see. That is how I keep track. Smile

Picking Money off the Ground

Waking up early with the sun. Summer felt she had some decisions to make.

Summer decided that 2,060 was enough Simoleans on hand to splurge on a basic shower. While she was in the plumbing department, she got another necessity, a toilet. Four tiny walls and a roof netted her an outhouse.

That morning she felt so much better.

That she practiced her guitar until noon.

Then headed to the festival for this day's events and flower gathering.

Another contest. This time she didn't win. Matter of fact it made her sick. She thought she would stick to bananas for a while.

She met Jared. It was time to start working on her charisma skill. Her Lifetime Wish is Golden Tongue, Golden Fingers. Guitar and Charisma maxed. Rich and famous was a given, she is a Diva after all.

Then she kicked the ball around for a while to keep herself in shape.

That night there was a full moon and a zombie groaned and growled right at the foot of her sleeping bag. Summer was so tired from the day's events that she didn't even wake up. The bag must be zombie-proof because she did not get attacked.

Week 1 Day 3 - Summer had 4,380 Simoleans. Time to build some more! Who needs a job when two Cosmos nets you 1,200?

On day 4, Summer visited the junkyard. Not much luck there other than some scrap and a broken washing machine. More guitar practice. One more level and she can perform for tips.

The zombie the previous evening had spooked Summer so she finally put up some walls.

That night she slept in warmth and relative safety.

Week 1 Day 4 - 2,564 but with a starter house! It still needs a kitchen and windows, but soon it'll be done. More flower gathering and maybe some ore hunting and she should be set.

My print screen is giviing me a black surface, so you'll have to trust me.

Great update. Why 'print screen'? Are you not using the in game camera with the 'C' key?

Your doing very well. The sleeping bag incident threw me for a loop. He must have the inappropriate trait!

The Game camera won't take pictures of the Sim console with your family funds showing.

I use a Snipit tool on my computer to get images of the control panel.
If you do not have a way to capture an image that is ok.
We will trust what you post. Wink

I use this too. If you do a search in your Start up Menu for 'snip' it should come up. It is called 'Snipping Tool' and it comes free with Windows.

Snipping Tool

I have snipit. I'll have to figure out how to get into windowed mode. Do you have to start it up that way or can you switch to and from windowed mode while you play?

Take a look at the Options menu to change the game to windowed or full screen mode. Wink

I think you can switch out of windowed mode without having to exit/restart it. It's really easy to change - go into the game menu and select options. There should be a tab for graphics settings (it's the first one, I believe). On that page there should be a checkbox labeled "Enable Fullscreen Mode". Uncheck that box.
