Great progress. I hope you are selling all that loot at the consignment store.

Uh-oh... Head Desk Was that a rule? I clearly missed that one... Embarassed

I just checked the rules.

Wow...you've been busy! LOL....I love Dusty's wife Meadow. Strumming in the snow was priceless. Great job! Impressive. My poor Barbie is still poor.

If you have some of the selling lifetime rewards and use the Alchemy shop to sell the gems and metal, you will make a lot more money per piece. At the Alchemy shop even the gem dust sells well.

Oh, I see! I misunderstood Merry's comment. I have tried using the consignment store in past games but never really got that much of an increase to make it cost effective. Because it always seems like my sim loses nearly a whole day of creating in order to run over to the store to sell stuff. I suppose I could tag-team it. Have Dusty create/collect and have Meadow drop stuff off at the consignment store after/before work. I'll see if she has enough LTR points to buy one of the related rewards and give it another try.

The Alchemy Consignment store is open 24/7. You don't have to rush to get there. They have a gem cutter there too, if you use the EA built one, and cutting is free. There is a LTR too that gives you an increase in what the items sell for. After you have sold x number of items, the consignment fee goes down to 1 S. Definitely worth the trip.

Apparently Dusty is considered quite the hunk. He keeps getting asked out on dates by everyone (including Meadow's mother). He's received numerous gifts in the mail from would-be suitors. banana Take a hint ladies and gents - he's happily married! Back off!

He certainly is a hunk and I am sure a loyal husband. I am not excited about that part of the attraction system. It is rather annoying to have your loyal married couples being bombarded by calls or mail asking for dates.
I guess it could be handy for meeting lots of Sims.

Yeah, I wish there was a way to opt a sim out, or that people would take a hint after you declined them. Meadow's mother is practically stalking the poor guy!

And no, he's not flirty at all and I didn't give him any of the "attractive" LTRs either! Hahaha

RE: Consignment stores

I don't know why I had such a bad opinion about the consignment store. I remember there being all kinds of bugs with them, that it was such a pain to deal with them. I remember stuff not selling and you'd have to cancel out you consignments just so you could use the store again. It seems like it is working much better now and I am definitely turning a profit. They must have really fixed some things...

That's a good way to do it. What my alchemist did was to collect for several days at a time and then go cut and sell those gems. She kept the shards for alchemy, but ended up with so much that she sold some of those too.

Go in with 30 apples and put them up for sale, your reputation with the seller will go up. The more you sell, the better price you get.

Tag teaming works well too. I normally will have one family member that has the selling rewards, so that person does the running for the entire family of creators.

Excellent progress so far! I've just barely started this challenge for myself. As for the attractions, have you removed his profile from the computer's online dating service? Smile

confused Is this a new function with Seasons? Does it happen automatically because I know I didn't have him do anything to put one on the computer. (He doesn't even own one!) I guess *somebody* will be going to the library very soon.

Thanks, Susinok. I just had *really* bad experiences with the consignment store back when LN came out. I stopped using it and never looked back apparently. (That and I almost never actually "play" the game. haha)

Seasons did add the attraction system and all Sims seem to be automatically in the on-line dating system.
I have only looked at it once and do not know how it affects the calls / mail from 'admirers'.
---
The consignment system seems to have been improved with a better return. But there are still chances of getting a bad deal occasionally. I used it extensively a while back during the original Rags to Riches challenge.
Putting up lots of smaller dollar items decreases the chance of loss and increases reputation.
The better your consignment reputation the more money you make and can get to a point of Zero consignment fees.

Hmm. I just had Dusty check a computer for the Online Dating Options. The only option he has is "Create Profile". So it doesn't look like he was automatically added. hmm

---

And in the news department - Dusty just got abducted by aliens! Don't know if there are alien babies in his future yet or not.

A new reason to LOVE tiberium:

You know how you take a cut tiberium and put it on the ground and it grows into a large spire cut worth a whole bunch more than it originally cost?

Well... if you have a gem cutter and you cut your own tiberium you get the cut gem, which you can grow of course. But you also get tiberium gem dust. Guess what. It grows too!!! So if you cut your own, you will get a minimum of 2 - the gem, plus at least 1 gem dust pile. I usually get more than one... HappyTrio

Week 8

Embarassed I totally forgot to do a status check for this week. shy

Wednesday

It has rained practially non-stop in Riverview. It's rained more than it's been dry. Today was no different. It was a real gutter-flusher out there. One of the solar panels on the roof got struck with lightening!

Thursday

After a hard day collecting (in the rain), Dusty decided to stop over at the Bistro for a very late dinner. When he left the place and started for home, he saw a strange light in the sky. Could it be the Aurora Borealis?

eeek An alien space ship de-cloaked right above him! He was helpless to escape!

They returned him a short while later, only slightly worse for wear. But he does NOT want to talk about it! Don't even ask!

Friday

After the traumatic events of the day before, Dusty decided to spend the entire day scouring the countryside for gems, metals and rocks. He scored quite the bounty. He decided to by an XXL display case and try his hand at transmogrification.

He supplied the display case with an assorted collection of collection of gold and gems worth §3557 and paid the requisite 500 price for transmogrification. They turned into a small spire cut tiberium worth §6882. He did it again with a collection worth §3522 and got another small spire-cut tiberium worth §8066. He placed both outdoors to allow them to grow.

Dusty then took a collection of 5 different varieties of “junk” gems with 4 different cuts worth §823 and transmogrified them. He came out with an uncut soupleace worth §4263. He did it again with another collection worth §1117 and got another uncut soulpeace worth §4263. Cut, the pieces were worth §21315 and §19715. They will be sent to the consignment store with the tiberium.

Meanwhile, the wonder dogs were sent out in search of collectibles as well. Indi brought home 2 additional un-cut tiberium. And both dogs brought home an assortment of other collectibles.

Saturday
Dusty spent the day shipping off metals to the smelters and cutting all of the gems that were collected the day before. After cutting the tiberium, he had not only 2 cut tiberium, which he planted outside with the other 2, but also 5 piles of tiberium dust. Unsure whether they would grow or not, he tried planting one to see.

While waiting for the tiberium to grow, Meadow got notice from the consignment store that a previous lot of consignments (not including the tiberium or soupeace gems that were just collected, but several extremely valuable pieces of metal including woohooium, compendium, palladium and supernovium) were sold for a whopping §139,359!

Week 9

Sunday

Family Funds: §181739
Lot: §165640
Real Estate: §596280
Total: §943559

Nearly there! The sale of the soulpeace gems and tiberium should just about do it. And, by the way - tiberium dust does grow just like regular cut tiberium. So, Dusty planted the remaining tiberium dust piles to allow the to grow. In the mean time, he took 4 6 of the tiberium that had already grown, plus the soul peace gems, to the consignment shop.

Monday
The tiberium sold for over §71K apiece! And with that (and a load of other items)....

WaveCheer

Challenge Complete!

Final tally:
Family Funds: §788446
House/Lot: §122579
Real Estate: §636980

Total: §1,548,005

They also have §1769 in assorted items in their inventory. But in the grand scheme... whoopie! hahaha

And, they still have the remaining 4 3 tiberium gem dust piles to be sold. I'm also not certain if everything that was consigned in the last batch has been sold yet. It usually takes a couple of days for it all to sell.

I'm selling off the last of everything and I'll give a "final" grand total in a bit. I'm trying to see if I can hit the 2M mark.
