PostSubject: Re: Rain In My Shoes: Rags to Riches Revised for Seasons & University Life   Fri Dec 21, 2012 6:47 pm

I actually didn't have a casino in Sunset Valley where I had my Sim. I had created a small dive bar in a 30x30 lot, and added a couple of slots machines in it. As it turned out, it was just down the street from where she lived, so as soon as she got her first 1,000 simoleans, I let her start gambling, but only the low $5 bets. She won a jackpot which enabled her to build her bathroom.

This, plus harvesting veggies, plus collecting flowers and stones, helped her earn enough money for a small house. I used blueprint to create her house; by using the cheapest rooms, I was able to keep it to a little over 8K, although I did sell some of the more expensive items. I'm debating now whether or not I should let her gamble at the little dive joint when she gets her first thousand simoleans, but only the low play slots, and then let her gamble for higher stakes once she has a house, a car, and full-time employment.

All work and no play makes my Sim dull sim anyway. Oh by the way, is there a mod that allows you to know your Sim's total worth? I've seen the detailed listing in some of the stories, but I have no idea if it's a mod or part of the game itself.

I like the rules you created for yourself related to gambling. After all there is just as much of a chance to lose as there is to win.
I have Master Controller which allows you to check status. That and Overwatch are easy to install and use.
You can read more about them at http://nraas.wikispaces.com/ to decide if you want to use them.
Otherwise you could determine your progress by looking at different menus in game.
Household funds on hand is on the in game console. Property value of the lot can be determined by going into build/buy mode to see furnished and unfurnished value of the lot. Smile

Oh, okay. I haven't used Master Controller, only Overwatch and Story Progression. I'll take another look at it, but I'm leery.

I also saw my Sim catch on fire and die. I could have had her run to the shower, but I wanted to see what would happen. Started the game over with the same Sim; completely new game.

I did find out one new thing about using blueprint. Never use it while the Sim is on the lot; otherwise your game crashes when you save (at least *mine* did, every time...your mileage may vary).

You can do as much or as little as you like with Master Controller.

Hmmm do you mean living on the lot? Or actually standing somewhere on the lot? I have built the basic structure before moving in my Sim. And have revised the build to include extra rooms using blueprint. So far ... so good ... but that is a good point.

Is there any restriction on the Philosopher's stone reward object? My sim just totally got his lifetime wish fulfilled (swimming in cash) and I bought it but then I wasn't sure if I could use it or not. He has an established home & what not.

Completed LTW and have established home.
I say since you earned it you can use it.

I have started this challenge. My sim is called Tobias Dragonheart. He lives in Sunlit Tides. I think that is how you spell that world's name.

Thank you very much.

Edit: I forgot to add, his traits are: Brave, Mooch, Lucky, Loves the Cold, Loves the Heat

By week 1, day 7 - Tobias Dragonheart has over 5k and built himself a little home. He is worth about 7k total at this point. Collecting has been very nice for him that first week. I have not given him a job yet. So far, collecting is more lucrative.

Barbie has a quick question. She found a Lucky coin in the wishing well....is she allowed to use it at the casino for profit?

Great job with Tobias.

@BG - It is a found object and lots of people in RL have charms and tokens they believe bring them luck. Based on that logic I will leave it to player's choice.

Yeah! Another brave soul joining in! Welcome Rawla/Tobias!

So... I keep forgetting about the WA XXL Display case... is there a restriction on using that?

Thanks for the welcoming, encouraging comments. So far his second week, which isn't quite finished yet, hasn't been so good. Frost on the ground and rain has kept him inside mostly and finding things has been a lot more difficult. I might give him a job over the winter just to help him out a little.

Rain in My Shoes: Dragonhearts Never Quit

Can my Sim have a 'regular' job like a test subject? Or can he only have a 'profession' or self-employment?

Congrats to k2m1too! That's awesome that you've already finished. Cool

Thanks for the answer to my question EQ and thanks for adding my story. He's just finished his second week. It didn't go as well as I had hoped but I'm learning. It's fun!

Forgive me if this has already been asked but....

1. I've received gifts from other players via the mailbox. Also...
2. My Sim has received gifts because he is a celebrity.

My question is: Can he use or sell these items?

Thank you for reminding me about that point. What say ye all?
My thought:
The mailbox gifts can be used to furnish your humble beginnings lot but cannot be sold.
AFTER the actual house is established you can sell the items to supplement income.
I had to go find my answer so as not to contradict myself.

Edit: Same would go for celebrity gifts. Using them to decorate the lot increases its value. Selling them gives an immediate gain.

I have a tiny suggestion for those who are playing a homeless Sim and it has to do with gambling. My suggestion is that *if* you have the Lucky Simolean Casino and the Wishing Well installed in your town, you only allow your homeless Sim to visit the casino if they have found a Lucky Coin. They can do this by stealing the coins. The reason for this suggestion is that it is the only way your Sims can really lose in gambling (unless they play blackjack, which I never do because I know nothing about blackjack). If you have them play the slot machines in the regular way they *will* eventually hit a jackpot. The game never really lets them go broke.

BUT with the lucky coin there is a very good chance that your Sim will not gain any benefit from it, although they *could* gain as much as 7K simoleans from it. I find that gambling takes all the challenge out of the game, so I've decided to re-start my Sim (I am playing a human in Moonlight Falls), and set those limits for her.
